Walk and Talk for Prostate Cancer – North London – April 30th
On Sunday April 30th we had a lovely day walking and talking in support of Prostate Cancer which is our chosen charity. The Errol McKellar Foundation hosted its first 5k sponsored walk for 2023 at the Gladstone Park in the London Borough of Brent. The JN Bank UK team were really pleased to be a part of this worthwhile programme which seeks to raise awareness and much needed funds to establish a National Mobile PSA blood testing unit. We are grateful for the patrons, customers, survivors and community stakeholders for supporting the cause.
We met several men who shared their heart-warming story about their journey with prostate cancer. Two of these testimonials can be viewed below. Many of the participants on the day included survivors, along with their families and friends who now also participate in the Walk & Talk events and local Sit & Talk Prostate Cancer Coffee mornings support groups to help spread awareness and to save lives.
It was also inspiring to witness the family members (including partners, children and grandchildren) of the survivors sharing their own experiences with others as they walked together. Many expressed how encouraging it is to see people coming out to events like these to support and show that people in the community care about what they are going through or have experienced.
Celebrity patron of The Errol McKellar Foundation – Rudolph Walker CBE, assisted in hosting the event and presenting medals to all participants on the walk. Errol McKellar in his address, encouraged men to get tested and to share what they know and have learnt to their network.
Despite being one of the easiest form of cancers to treat if detected early, prostate cancer still affects: 1 in 4 black men, 1 in 8 white men and 1 in 12 Asian men in the UK. You can support by being a part of the next Walk & Talk Prostate Cancer event being held on Sunday September 17th at Brockwell Park (South London) and you can see more information and sign up here.
